Quote of the Day

by
John Rosemond
"The recent trend has been toward structuring the young child's time with organized sports, music lessons, and so on. This reflects the mistaken belief that these things are more "meaningful" than play, when exactly the opposite is true."

My Big Boy

Kenan is now 17 months and getting so big and independent! He has decided that he knows how to talk! He has been able to say Ma-ma, Da-da, dog, and Rock for a while! He could say a few other words, too! He then started being able to make pig snorts when you asked "what does a pig sound like"! Within the last couple of weeks he can make a bunch of animal sounds - meow, woof, boc-boc, ribbit, baa-baa, neigh, hoo-hoo, quack, moo, grrr. He can also say Nana, Da'Dunn, Blake, Blair, Kirk, walk, go, shoes, juice, book, cat, cow, fish, bye-bye, hi, duck, bubbles, belly button, jet and several others that I can't think of at the moment! He had a well doctor's appointment last week and he was 25 lbs. and 12 ozs. (50th percentile) and 32 1/2 inches long (70th percentile). His head circumference was 18 3/4 inches around - I'm not sure where he got that big ole noggin. We are so proud of our little linebacker! Kenan is such a blessing from God and we are so thankful that he is in our lives! We are not quite sure what we did before he came along - sat around and stared at each other I guess! ;)

I love Texas!

Yay! I made it to Texas yesterday! After starting my day at 0400 to get to the airport by 0530, I finally made it to Midland around 1100 central time! Did I mention that I puked my lungs up that morning, also? Not exactly what you want to do the day you will be traveling! I thought I was passed that point in my pregnancy but obviously not! I am sure you all wanted to know that! ;) Anyway, Kenan and I made it! Kenan did really well on the trip but he is like holding a helicopter! I was worn out by the time we got here! We went directly to Taco Villa from the airport (oh, and also for dinner - thanks Rhesa)! Yummm! It was so good! It feels so good to be home for a while! I miss Goldie immensely but being home with ALL my family is so wonderful! I love family, Tex-Mex food, no traffic, finding A&M stuff in stores, friendly people, good friends, HEB, the church I grew up in, knowing where I am going and no humidity! Not necessarily in that order! Basically I just love TEXAS!

Yuck!

Ok, so here is the situation! Kenan the dogs and I went upstairs to do a few things like we do most mornings! Kenan went into his room to play, or pull every book off the bookshelf, like usual. I didn't think anything of it because up to this point things were normal. Kenan has a fascination with shutting doors so he shut himself in his room. Again, this is nothing unusual! I usually give him a few minutes and then I go and open the door to check on him and make sure he is not tearing anything up! This time when I opened the door I was assaulted by the worst smell ever. As I looked about the room there was poop everywhere including all over my son. So I immediately start looking for the dirty diaper that I must have left by mistake in his room... nothing. I don't see anything, then it hits me! One of the dogs must have left a wonderful present in Kenan's room! How I had missed it I am not sure but I am pretty sure I know who the culprit is! Squirt got in trouble for digging out of the fence this week and she has been letting us know that she is not happy about it every since! So after I threw up a little in my mouth I cleaned up the mess, steam cleaned the carpets, and bathed Kenan! I was not happy about it though!

Anybody want a really cute but ornery dachshund? Anybody?

Cape Henry Lighthouse

We took one day and drove out to Virginia Beach and ate lunch on the beach! Then we went and saw the Cape Henry Lighthouse! We also got to meet the Lighthouse Keeper! Mom and I walked out onto the private beach on Fort Story (where the lighthouse is located)! There were hundreds of crabs washed up onto land! It was a fun outing for the day!

The Botanical Gardens

I found a cool stick!
I'm not letting go of my cool stick!
Hanging out with Nana!
Pretty rose!

Another adventure that we went on while my parents were here was to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens! It was beautiful! My pictures do not do it justice! I am hoping my mom got better ones! They also had a tram that drove you through the gardens so you would not have to walk the whole way! We were thankful for that being as it was 85+ degrees that day! Kenan enjoyed running around and as you can see he found a stick that he held on to most of the day! We also enjoyed the Canadian Geese that roamed freely through the gardens! I am thinking this would be a perfect setting for family portraits! Maybe someday!
